Kian Calder named RBC Community Award recipient

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is pleased to announce Portage Terriers captain, Kian Calder as the recipient of the 2022-23 RBC Community Award.

Earlier this season, the MJHL announced the 2022-23 RBC – MJHL Community Ambassador Team, comprised of one player from each MJHL team who displayed outstanding citizenship and sportsmanship both on and off the ice. RBC made a donation on behalf of each ambassador to a school in their local community.

At the conclusion of the 2022-23  season, Calder was selected as the recipient of the RBC Community Award which comes with a further donation from RBC in Kian’s name that he has chose to be directed to Yellowquill School in Portage la Prairie.

“It’s truly an honour, as a kid, the Terriers put a lot into the community when I was growing up,” shared Calder. “I just tried to do the same with the roles reversed, they made a huge impact on my life and they were a reason why I wanted to play for the Terriers. I hope I had that sort of impact on someone.”

“Kian represented the MJHL, the Terriers and his home community of Portage la Priarie with tremendous class over his time in the league,” said MJHL Director of Marketing & Partnerships, Erik Swar. “His commitment to giving back along with his efforts to better his community do not go unnoticed and we are proud to name Kian as the 2022-23 RBC Community Award winner. The MJHL congratulates Kian along with our 12 other ambassadors for their outstanding dedication to volunteerism in Manitoba.”
