Kings down Thunderbirds, earn bye to semifinals

ESTEVAN, SK – Brayden Dube scored three times while Carson Cherepak stopped 17/18 shots to help lead the Dauphin Kings to a 6-1 victory over the Soo Thunderbirds (NOJHL) on Wednesday night.

Dauphin stormed out of the gate in the first period and outshot the Soo 12-3, with Dube scoring a pair of goals to give the Kings a two-goal lead.

Taking that lead in the second period, Dauphin scored three more times in the middle frame with Nick Braun, Klim Georgiev and Colby Jaquet finding the back of the net to give the Kings a 5-0 lead heading into the final twenty minutes of play.

Kelsey Ouellet scored the lone Thunderbirds goal just 27 seconds into the third period before Brayden Dube dragged the puck around the Soo defender and snapped it into the back of the net for his hat-trick goal, giving the Kings a five-goal lead and a 6-1 victory.

Dauphin concluded their schedule in Group B with three wins in four games and top spot in the group, giving the Kings a bye into the Centennial Cup semifinal which is set for Saturday night at 6:30 CST.
