Leah Hextall named MJHL Brand Ambassador

WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is thrilled to name Leah Hextall as an Official MJHL Brand Ambassador.

Over the last 17 years, Leah has been an on-air presence for some of the largest networks in North America including ESPN, Sportsnet, Hockey Night in Canada and NESN. In 2020, Leah made history as the first woman to call play-by-play for an NHL game on Sportsnet.

“We are very excited to have Leah officially join the MJHL as a Brand Ambassador and we look forward to growing our already strong relationship with her,” said MJHL Commissioner, Kevin Saurette. “She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and professionalism from the highest levels of the sporting world which will prove very valuable for the MJHL moving forward.”

In her role of MJHL Ambassador, Leah will focus on special MJHL projects & content throughout the season and will be a valuable asset for the MJHL relating to communications, social media and branding best practices.

“The MJHL strives to provide outstanding opportunities for all its players pursuing both their educational and hockey dreams,” Hextall shared. “The league has also done that for me, laying the foundation early on in my career as one of the first hockey league’s I covered. Now, nearly two decades later, the MJHL is providing me the opportunity to develop in the play-by-play role in a collaboration that supports my hockey dream.”

“The league has a special place in my heart. My late father, Randy Hextall, won a Centennial Cup in 1973 with the Portage Terriers. I grew up listening to my dad relive his time in the league while he remained life long friends with his teammates. It’s a special league and special to Manitoba,” Hextall concluded.

Hextall has already contributed to the MJHL with her work as Host of the MJHL Roundtable Webinar Series in June. Fans attending games will also hear Leah’s voice on MJHL PA Announcements throughout the 2020-21 season.
