The OCN Blizzard Jr “A” Hockey Club is proud to announce the hiring of head coach Matt Summers. Matt is an OCN Blizzard Alumni (2003-2006) who has played and has prior experience within the Blizzard organization with an extensive background of professional accomplishments. Matt, who hails from Savage, Minnesota, USA spent last season as Head Coach of the Tri City Ice Hawks (USPHL Premier) in Bay City, Michigan USA.
“I want to thank the OCN Blizzard organization for this opportunity. I can’t wait to get started! My time playing for the Blizzard, 2003-2006, provided me the foundation to play 10 years of professional hockey. This was only possible from the support and experience I received from my time in OCN. These years were filled with non-stop thoughts of what I would do if I were ever in a position to coach the OCN Blizzard. Now it’s here and real! My love for the organization, the community, the proud people of OCN, The Pas and Northern Manitoba is the reason I can’t wait to get to work and lead these young men in the right direction on and off the ice for this season and many more seasons to come.”
“I look forward to working alongside everyone involved with the organization and seeing all the old faces and the new at the rink and in the community. Hope to see you all at the AGM and tryouts in August. Together we will put the pieces together for the championship that needs to get back to OCN.”
“It’s really neat to have someone that I’ve previously coached and it’s about time that we bring in someone who is as enthusiastic as Matt,” said Greg Hunter Interim General Manager of the OCN Blizzard. “He has played in The Pas/OCN, he’s familiar the area, he knows the fans and the type of hockey played in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.”
