Mirwald among MJHL alumni named to WHL All-Star Teams

Five MJHL alumni have been named to Western Hockey League (WHL) All-Star Teams in their respective divisions.

Goaltender, Brett Mirwald, of the Vancouver Giants was named to the B.C. Division First All-Star Team for his outstanding performance this season. Mirwald spent the 2021-22 season in the MJHL with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines where he played 15 regular season games and 3 in the playoffs.

Of the five alumni, four were on loan to MJHL teams during the shortened 2020-21 pandemic season.

Conor Geekie of the Swift Current Broncos spent 9 games with the Virden Oil Capitals, adding 1 goal and 3 assists. Geekie posted 99 points in 55 games this season to earn him Central Division First All-Star Team honours.

Denton Mateychuk of the Moose Jaw Warriors suited up for 8 games with the Steinbach Pistons, earning 1 goal and 2 assists. The Warriors captain enjoyed a career year on the back end, scoring 17 goals and 58 assists in 52 games to earn East Division First All-Star Team honours.

Goaltender, Reid Dyck of the Swift Current Broncos started 5 games for the Winkler Flyers, posting a 2.78 GAA, .920 SV% and 3-2 record. In 35 starts with the Broncos this season, Dyck posted career highs in wins (25), goals against average (2.70) and save percentage (.911) to earn him Central Division Second All-Star Team recognition.

Conner Roulette of the Spokane Chiefs played 3 games for the Selkirk Steelers, adding 1 goal and 1 assist. Another player who had a career year in the WHL, Roulette scored 45 goals and 63 assists in 68 games with the Chiefs. His performance earned him U.S. Division Second All-Star Team recognition.
