MJHL to host Hockey Manitoba U16 POE

WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is pleased to host the Hockey Manitoba U16 Program of Excellence (POE) in July at the MJHL Prospects Camp.

This will be the third phase of the U16 Program of Excellence featuring the province’s best 2007-born players as they compete thorough the provincial high-performance development and selection program that leads to the formation of U16 Team Manitoba.  The Hockey Manitoba U16 POE roster will compete against 2006-born players in the Draft Division of the MJHL Prospects Camp held July 20-23 at Seven Oaks Sportsplex.

The Hockey Manitoba U16 POE (Summer Camp roster) will see a total of twenty-six (26) players invited, comprised of fifteen (15) forwards, eight (8) defencemen, and three (3) goaltenders. The final U16 Team Manitoba roster will compete at the 2023 Canada Winter Games which is scheduled to take place from February 18th to February 26th, 2023, in Prince Edward Island.

Alumni of U16 Team Manitoba feature MJHL stars such as Nakodan Greyeyes and Parker Malchuk from the 2022 Champion Dauphin Kings, 2021-22 MJHL top scorer Justin Svenson from the Winkler Flyers, and recent first-round MJHL Draft selections such as Carter Bear and Jackson Kostiuk.

The 2022 MJHL Prospect Camp will feature three divisions of players who have been invited to attend the event.  Players born in 2004 and 2005 who are currently signed and / or protected by MJHL teams will feature the Premier Division.  Meanwhile the Draft Prospects division will feature 2006-born players, many of whom recently gone through the 2022 MJHL Draft along with the Hockey Manitoba U16 POE. New to the camp in 2022, will be the U16 Futures Division with the top 2007-born players in the province being added to the MJHL Prospect Camp.
