Oil Capitals, Kings, and Blizzard hit the win column on Saturday

Virden Oil Capitals 7, Steinbach Pistons 5

Liam Goertzen’s four-goal performance helped lead the Virden Oil Capitals to a third straight win on Saturday night in Steinbach.

The Oil Capitals and Pistons traded goals all night long until the third period when Goertzen scored goals two and three of the night to give Virden a 6-4 lead before adding an empty netter. Steinbach scored late but that would be all as the Oil Capitals have strung wins together against the Wolverines, Nighthawks, and Pistons to sit in a first place tie atop the MGEU West Division.


Dauphin Kings 3, Swan Valley Stampeders 2

Bryson Yaschyshyn made 54 saves while Colin Friedrich’s 5th of the season proved to be the game winner as the Dauphin Kings picked up their first win of the season.

Despite being outshot 56-23, the Kings were able to earn their first win of the season on the road against a Swan Valley club that had yet to lose. Brody Green, Max George, and Colin Friedrich scored in the victory for Dauphin while Trace Langan and Ryder Gardner scored in the loss for the Stampeders.


Northern Manitoba Blizzard 5, Winnipeg Monarchs 2

Three first period goals helped power the Northern Manitoba Blizzard over the Winnipeg Monarchs at the Hockey for All Centre on Saturday in Winnipeg.

The Blizzard held a 4-0 lead heading into the third period and held strong until the late stages of the game. The Monarchs hit the score sheet twice in four minutes to cut the lead in half but that would be all as Liam Carlone would score on the empty net for his third of the season. Will Bridgeo was strong in the Blizzard crease, turning aside 28 of 30 shots in the win.
