Oil Caps’ Alumni Kirkup signs pro contract in ECHL

Former Virden Oil Capitals forward, Tyler Kirkup has signed an Amateur Tryout Offer with the Reading Royals in the ECHL.

Kirkup recently completed his 4-year collegiate hockey career with the Bemidji State Beavers (NCAA D1) where he played in 131 games, scoring 21 goals while adding 27 assists.

During his third season with the Oil Capitals (2015-18), Kirkup announced his commitment to play for the Beavers. In 178 MJHL games, the Virden, MB native scored 68 goals and 89 assists. He scored a league-high 40 goals during the 2017-18 season and was named a Second Team All-Star.
