The Portage Terriers are the first team to book their ticket to the second round of the MJHL McMunn & Yates Turnbull Cup Playoffs.
After picking up a big win on the road in game four to take a 3-1 series lead, the Terriers defeated the Nighthawks at Stride Place on Friday night, 5-1 to win their first round series 4-1 over Niverville.
The Nighthawks gave the Terriers everything they had including taking game one to double overtime where Mike Stubbs scored the winner just 46 seconds in.
After Portage took game two on the road in Niverville, the expansion Nighthawks would go on to secure their first playoff win in franchise history, defeating the Terriers 5-4 in Portage during game three.
Bailey Monteith started the first three games in net for the Terriers before making way to Jaden Catellier, who stopped 55/57 shots in back-to-back wins that helped wrap the series up for the Terriers.
The Terriers now await who their second round opponent will be with winners from round one from each division advancing to a non-divisional round two (Semi-Finals) best-of-seven series based on regular season points.
